We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Facility & Grounds Technician to join our team and help maintain the quality and appearance of our grounds and facilities.
Position Summary
The Facility & Grounds Technician plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations, maintenance, and appearance of the Jacksonville Equestrian Center. This hands-on position is responsible for assisting with facility upkeep, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and event preparation. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-conscious, and comfortable working outdoors in a dynamic environment that includes horses, livestock, vehicles, and event guests.
Key ResponsibilitiesFacility & Grounds Maintenance
- Assist with general upkeep of the property, including mowing, trimming, fence repair, barn maintenance, manure removal, and trash collection.
- Conduct routine inspections of barns, arenas, stalls, pastures, mechanical rooms, and public areas to identify safety concerns and maintenance needs.
- Perform preventative maintenance on buildings, grounds, machinery, equipment, and facility systems.
- Support arena preparation, including dragging, watering, footing inspections, and event setup/breakdown.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of barns, storage areas, and grounds.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Safely operate, or learn to operate, tractors, mowers, arena drags, utility vehicles, power tools, and other maintenance equipment.
- Use hand and power tools to complete repairs, installations, and maintenance projects.
- Report equipment issues promptly and assist with basic troubleshooting and repairs.
Animal & Public Safety
- Work safely around horses, livestock, and other animals present on the property.
- Follow all facility safety procedures and contribute to a safe environment for guests, exhibitors, riders, and animals.
- Assist with animal-related operational needs, including maintaining safe barn and stalling areas.
Event Support
- Assist with setup and teardown for horse shows, livestock events, clinics, rentals, and community events.
- Provide operational support during events, including facility inspections, crowd flow assistance, and responding to maintenance requests as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience in groundskeeping, facility maintenance, farm operations, landscaping, construction, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Willingness to learn the operation of tractors, mowers, and other farm or maintenance equipment.
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and complete tasks efficiently.
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Experience working around horses or livestock is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working on uneven terrain and around animals, equipment, and event traffic.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
