ABOUT THE ROLE
THELMA is seeking a creative and driven Marketing Director to serve as our principal marketing and communications team member. In this role, you will lead all external marketing efforts — from brand strategy and graphic design to web management and copywriting — and play a vital part in shaping how our community experiences THELMA's events, programs, and initiatives. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Marketing & Communications Leadership (30%)
- Lead all external marketing and communications efforts for the organization.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications plan, including public relations strategies.
Graphic Design (30%)
- Develop and maintain THELMA's visual brand across events, series, fundraising initiatives, and digital/print style guides.
- Design and produce print and digital ads, programs, mailers, and logo/branded items.
Copywriting (10%)
- Write, edit, and manage production of printed materials including member newsletters/magazines, event programs, playbills, and brochures.
- Write press releases and broadcast marketing copy.
Web & Social Media Management (20%)
- Design, update, and manage the THELMA website and all social media accounts.
General Responsibilities (10%)
- Contribute to a supportive, collaborative, and positive working environment.
- Communicate effectively with administrative and event staff using office tools and technology.
- Support large events under THELMA's "All Hands on Deck" policy.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in marketing, or equivalent education/experience.
- Minimum 2–3 years of progressive experience in marketing and communications, ideally for events, exhibits, or performances in a non-profit or comparable setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva, and Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing websites and social media platforms.
- Significant customer service experience.
- Valid driver's license in good standing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is a primarily on-site position requiring 40+ hours per week, with hours varying by season. The role is physical in nature; employees work in environments that may be louder than typical office settings (approximately 90–120 decibels) and warmer than room temperature. Employees must be able to sit, stand, walk, use hands, talk, and hear; occasionally climb or balance; and lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
