Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Wastewater Operations or his or her designee, the Maintenance Coordinator supervises the repair and maintenance of buildings and mechanical equipment installed in these buildings. They ensure the timely installation and upkeep of the Township's property and systems to ensure operational effectiveness. Maintaining effective communication and working relationships with fellow employees and direct reports is a must. The Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for managing all installation, repair, and upkeep operations of the Township’s wastewater treatment facilities. Duties include maintaining machinery, planning repair activities, and developing maintenance procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary as well as organizational and leadership abilities.
The successful candidate will be expected to work the Township's standard business hours of 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. In addition, this position is subject to the 24/7 operational needs of the Department and serves in an on-call leadership capacity 365 days per year.
This position serves as the first point of contact after the scheduled on-call operator. The employee is responsible for assessing the situation, coordinating the appropriate personnel response, and notifying the Director or Deputy Director as necessary. Until the employee obtains the required certifications and is fully authorized, they may not make process or operational changes and must contact the Director or Deputy Director for direction. Upon successful completion of the required training and certifications, the employee will be required to participate in the Department's mandatory rotating on-call schedule, including weeknight and weekend coverage.
Minimum Requirements to Hold this Position:
1) Education/Experience/Training:
- High school education or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s degree in Facility Management or related field preferred, but not required
- Possess Class A, Subclass 1 PA DEP Wastewater License within 4 years of date of hire
- Five years’ experience in the maintenance field
2) Comprehensive Knowledge of the following:
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general maintenance systems. Possesses strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose, repair, and resolve equipment failures and maintenance issues efficiently. Maintains accurate, organized, and comprehensive maintenance records for all service repairs, equipment, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures
- Occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures related to the work.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluations.
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Township officials, other public officials, associates, contractors, general public and regulatory agencies.
- Civic emergency responses associated with weather extremes.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
3) Licenses/Certificates/Registrations:
- Possess Class A, Subclass 1 PA DEP Wastewater License within 4 years of date of hire.
- Obtain and maintain confined space certification.
4) Ability To Operate or Use the Following:
- For this position, they need to have proficient skills with a computer, printer, and copier, and associated software.
- Miscellaneous hand tools, power saws, drill press, rigging equipment, micrometers, and other gauges. Motors, pumps, drives, drive chains, belt drives, mechanical seals, gear boxes, mechanical clutches, rigging, hydraulic and pneumatics, cylinders, and air compressors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
- Supervise and lead all Maintenance Mechanics personnel, processes, and operations.
- Assign repair schedules and estimate costs for budgeting.
- Document and prepare maintenance logs for all equipment using CMMS.
- Oversee equipment stock and place orders for supplies when necessary.
- Prepare and provide a weekly report to the Director of Wastewater Operations or his or her designee
- Track expenses and oversee the budget for maintenance.
- Supervise maintenance of all machinery to ensure its proper operation.
- Create and implement maintenance procedures.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify and resolve problems.
- Plan and manage all repair and maintenance activities.
- Foster a loss prevention culture in the department by assessing operational risks, implementing effective risk controls and monitoring departmental operations over time to ensure that risk controls remain effective.
- Coordinates activities with other Township departments, other municipalities and/or outside consultants.
- Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with management, subordinates, other departments, elected officials, the public, outside agencies, vendors, contractors, etc.
- Communicate effectively in writing, orally, and with others to understand and convey information, in a manner consistent with job function/position.
- Exercise sound judgment and common sense in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
- Respond to inquiries, complaints, and/or grievances in a timely and professional manner.
- Ability and willingness to accept and work occasional scheduled/all emergency overtime.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and required wastewater licenses – notification of status change is required within 24 hours of change.
