Valid Principal, Assistant Principal, Mid-Management or Superintendent's Certification by the State Board
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborates with administrators and staff to foster a safe school environment conducive to effective instructional management.
2. Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with campus personnel.
3. Utilizes management practices that promote collegiality, teamwork and collaborative decision- making among staff.
4. Provides for an effective two-way communication with staff, District employees, media, community and the board of Trustees.
5. Ensures the Pupil Personnel Service operations contribute to the attainment of District goals and objectives.
6. Contributes to the recommendation of sound policies directed toward improvement of Pupil Personnel Services practices.
7. Maintains a working knowledge of Texas Education Codes regarding discipline, attendance, enrollment and other codes specific to Pupil Personnel job duties.
8. Acts as a resource and presenter for training new teachers, administrators and other staff regarding discipline management.
9. Advises and assists campus administrators in conducting daily due process procedures related to discipline management.
10. Assists in compiling, updating and producing the District Student/Parent handbook.
11. Updates and maintains the Pupil Personnel Services webpage, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for campus administration.
12. Establishes and manages information retrieval systems to support Personnel Services procedures.
13. Assists in developing, maintaining, and updating Pupil Personnel Services manuals and expulsion guidelines.
14. Prepares paperwork and conducts disciplinary conferences to determine appropriate student placement (e.g., alternative educational settings or other disciplinary actions).
15. Prepares scripts and policies for evidentiary hearings, conducts disciplinary expulsion hearings, and determines student expulsion or other disciplinary actions.
16. Prepares paperwork and participates in expulsion appeals.
17. Confers, contacts, schedule intakes with the Bexar County Juvenile Justice Academy for expelled students.
18. Conducts conferences with parents/guardians and students regarding custodianship, verification of disciplinary background, transfers, advanced enrollments, grandparent-affidavits, and foreign exchange students.
19. Coordinates with school and local law enforcement agencies.
20. On call for emergency crisis response plan.
21. Maintains all facets of the District School Choice and Attendance Tracking Programs.
22. Inputs data, answers phone calls, notifies parents and campuses on any topic specific to Pupil Personnel Services and directs other calls to proper person/department.
23. Develops professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
24. Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, serving as a role model for District staff, parents, and students.
25. Conducts and participates in audits.
26. Initiates activities to address identified District and community needs concerning Pupil Personnel Services.
27. Responsible for approving transfers for Continued Enrollments, Administrative, and children of employees.
28. Prepares reports for school principals upon request by the Executive and/or Director.
29. Receives telephone calls from parents, students and the community regarding complaints and/or concerns.
30. Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with Hearing Officers of other local school districts.
31. Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
32. Maintains confidentiality of information.
33. Reports to work on time every day.
34. Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to use good judgment and discretion in sensitive, confidential issues and projects
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to supervise employees, establish and maintain effective working relationships with executive management, campus/department heads, elected officials, District employees, other school districts and government agencies, outside organizations and the general public
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Valid Texas Driver's License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
