Medical Assistant – Ambulatory Surgery Center
We are seeking a dependable and patient-focused Medical Assistant to join our surgical team. This role provides essential support to clinical staff, assisting with patient care, surgical workflow, and administrative tasks to ensure a smooth and efficient operation.
Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant supports patient care activities in both pre- and post-operative settings, assists with procedures, maintains medical records, and helps ensure the surgery center operates efficiently while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Support:
- Assist the Recovery Room nurse during surgical days
- Support patient recovery, including post-operative care and instructions
- Transport patients as needed, including discharge assistance
- Assist providers and nursing staff with procedures as directed
- Monitor and report any abnormal patient observations to the RN or physician
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked recovery area
- Assist with YAG laser procedures
Administrative & Front Desk Support:
- Prepare and organize patient charts for surgery and audits
- Scan, batch, and file surgical records daily
- Fax co-managed charts and maintain accurate documentation
- Assist front desk staff with chart preparation and other duties as needed
- Support administrative tasks on non-surgery days
Inventory & Supply Management:
- Receive, unload, and organize supply shipments
- Maintain stock levels and restock recovery and clinical areas
- Keep supply orders and purchase orders organized
Cleaning & Compliance:
- Assist with routine and deep cleaning of the surgery suite
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace at all times
- Follow HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient confidentiality
- Adhere to all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
Team & Quality Support:
- Work collaboratively with all team members to support daily operations
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain positive and professional communication with patients, families, and staff
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant or in a clinical setting preferred
- Knowledge of medical records procedures and basic clinical practices
- Understanding of aseptic technique and patient care standards
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment
