Job Title: Part-Time Middle School CTE Computer Teacher
Location: Wilmington School of the Arts, Wilmington NC
Schedule: Part-Time (approx. 20 hours/week, exact schedule to be determined)
Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, part-time
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher . You will teach middle school students practical, real-world skills in computer science, programming, digital literacy, and cybersecurity. The ideal candidate creates engaging, hands-on lessons that prepare students for high school CTE courses and future careers in the rapidly evolving technology sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery: Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans for topics such as coding, digital citizenship, hardware/software fundamentals, and multimedia.
- Hands-on Instruction: Facilitate project-based learning and lab workshops that challenge students to apply their knowledge to real-world problems.
- Student Assessment: Evaluate student progress through coding projects, assignments, and presentations; provide actionable, constructive feedback.
- Career Exploration: Introduce students to various technology-related career paths, helping them build foundational skills for high school and beyond.
- Equipment Maintenance: Manage and maintain classroom computer hardware and software in a safe and functional working order.
- Collaboration: Partner with school faculty to integrate computing principles and digital literacy across other subject areas.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Education, or a related field.
- Certification: Must hold (or be eligible to obtain) a valid North Carolina teaching license with a CTE endorsement in Technology Education or Business and Information Technology (e.g., NC Area 0760).
- Experience: Previous experience teaching technology or working in the IT/Computer Science field is highly preferred.
- Skills: Strong proficiency in digital literacy, and standard office/productivity software.
- Classroom Management: Proven ability to engage middle school students, manage a classroom, and maintain a positive learning environment.
Physical Demands
The position requires the physical ability to maneuver around the classroom, occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force, and possess the dexterity to operate and troubleshoot standard computer hardware and software.
