Occupational Therapist Responsibilities
- Assess students in suspected areas of disability in accordance with the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE)
- Interpret assessment results and complete written evaluation reports, progress reports, and IEP goals and objectives in compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Develop occupation-based intervention plans aligned with student needs and evaluation findings
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings, provide recommendations, and develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and intervention plans
- Plan, deliver, and document direct occupational therapy services in accordance with IEPs and Section 504 Plans
- Maintain accurate and timely professional documentation
- Consult and collaborate with school personnel, parents, and other individuals involved in the student’s education and treatment
- Evaluate student abilities and develop occupational profiles using functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews
- Coordinate with IEPT members to establish appropriate goals and objectives and participate in IEPT meetings
Occupational Therapist Qualifications
- Current Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR) credential and active licensure in the State of Michigan
- Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
- Experience providing occupational therapy services in educational or pediatric clinical settings
- Ability to assess, plan, and implement individualized treatment interventions to support student participation and functional performance
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including educators, families, and related service providers
- Knowledge of sensory integration, fine motor development, and activities of daily living as they relate to school-based practice
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
