About the Optician Position
Our new dispensing optician will be a welcome addition to our team and family, who is both personable and welcoming to our patients.
As an optician in our practice, your regular duties will include:
- Receive customers' prescriptions for eyeglasses or contact lenses from our Doctors of Optometry
- Educate customers about eyewear and help customers choose eyeglass frames and lenses
- Repair or replace broken eyeglass frames
- Perform business and administrative tasks, such as answering phones
- Measure eyes and facial features (pupillary distance, bridge/eye size, vertex distance, etc.) to ensure proper alignment and comfort
- Prepare work orders for the optical lab with specifications (prescription, lens type, coatings, frame dimensions, etc.)
- Verify accuracy of finished lenses (power, alignment, fit, coatings) against specifications
- Adjust and repair frames for comfort, fit and alignment
- Help clients with contact lens insertion, removal, and care (if applicable)
- Maintain records of prescriptions, work orders, payments, and inventory
- Handle administrative tasks: ordering supplies, billing, scheduling, etc.
- Educate clients on care and maintenance of eyewear and lenses
Not Required but extra skill sets carry higher hourly rate:
- Edge, cut, shape, or finish lenses so they fit into chosen frames (including grinding edges, drilling, beveling, reshaping)
- Mount lenses into frames and assemble complete eyewear
