Langdale Forest Products Co. is a subsidiary of The Langdale Company, a family-owned corporation that was established in 1894, that is also headquartered in Valdosta, GA and employees around 1,200 people. Langdale Forest Products is a modern lumber manufacturing facility that primarily produces dimensional (2") lumber. Internal departments include the Sawmill, Continuous Dry Kilns, a Planer Mill, Shipping, Maintenance, Electrical and Fabrication Departments. Our production capacity is around 200 MMBF/year. JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the maintenance and
upkeep of all company equipment and property.
ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
1. Performs general upkeep and maintenance on production and support equipment on a daily basis (to include the ability to operate the same in an operational situation).
2. Responsible for welding and metal fabrication as needed.
3. Responsible for the general maintenance of hydraulics and cylinder repair.
4. Responsible for oil sampling on hydraulic equipment.
5. Responsible for the research, identification of part numbers, and ordering of replacement parts.
6. Must have an understanding and ability to use factory supplied literature.
7. Must be able to observe the operation, and with the aid of technical manuals, troubleshoot equipment.
8. Responsible for the accomplishment of scheduled maintenance and documenting the same (documentation must communicate observed trends and possible projected problem areas).
9. Must be able to decipher and perform maintenance from computer generated schedules and trend reports.
10. Responsible for being present and on time for work each day.
OCCASIONAL/MARGINAL DUTIES:
1. Operates mechanized lifting equipment on an as needed basis.
2. Performs any additional duties as may be assigned by his or her Supervisor.
TECHNICIAN CLASSIFICATIONS:
(D) Class Technician (Apprentice)
Will be responsible for helping other technicians perform their assignments. Will also be responsible for doing jobs such as, but not limited to, changing air lines, hydraulic lines, putting drive belts on, putting chains and sprockets on, sheaves and pulleys, and will also be responsible for doing lubrication and ability to perform without supervision.
(C) Class Technician
Will be responsible for helping other technicians perform their assignments. Will also be responsible for doing jobs to include all Class (D) Technician duties, as well as installing bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, etc.
(B) Class Technician
Will be responsible for helping other technicians perform their assignments, as well as performing jobs to include all Class (D) and (C) Technician duties. Will also be responsible for reading blue prints for proper use of torch, cutting and welding. Must be able to perform layout and fabrication, and have the ability to trouble- shoot equipment and systems. Must be able to set up equipment. Ability to perform some trouble shooting of hydraulic systems, and ability to be assigned jobs and able to carry them out and overcome problems that could arise without presence of a supervisor.
(A) Class Technician
Ability to trouble shoot all air and hydraulic systems and equipment at the plant. Must be able to identify a problem with equipment and correct the problem. Must be able to read prints on air, hydraulic, equipment, and structure. Will be responsible for performing jobs to include all Class (D), (C), and (B) Technician duties. Must possess leadership skills. Will also act as lead personnel to ensure all jobs are carried out appropriately, as well as assigning work to other technicians and ensuring proper set up of equipment and alignment.
All Technicians
When more than one technician is performing work on the same job, the highest class technician will be designated as the lead person. The other technicians will be responsible for following his instructions. If all technicians are of the same class, then the most senior technician will be responsible and the other technicians will be responsible for following his instructions.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: *High School diploma or GED equivalent.
*Valid drivers license required.
MANUAL/PHYSICAL SKILLS: *Must be mechanically inclined.
*Ability to read a tape measure.
*Ability to troubleshoot.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: *Ability to understand written
and verbal instructions.
*Ability to read and understand
technical manuals.
*Ability to understand computer
generated reports.
HOURS OF WORK: *40 hours per week with
additional overtime as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: *Must be able to lift 50 – 75 pounds.
*Substantial standing and walking
required.
*Ability to climb steps, ladders,
and on top of equipment.
*Must NOT have a fear of heights.
*Good manual dexterity skills and
eye/hand coordination.
*Must be able to work in all types
of weather conditions.
*Ability to tolerate saw
dust and other particles.
