The Unit Clerical Associate (UCA) functions as an integral member of a team of care providers on a patient care unit, who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the Staff Nurse or Clinic Nurse, the Patient Care Associate (PCA) and the Unit Clerical Associate (UCA) provides patient care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving services levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient focus care through the integrated skills of all care team members. The UCA is responsible for coordinating/gathering all documentation related to the patient chart. They provide variety of clerical support services under the direction of the Staff Nurse or Clinic Nurse, who is a registered nurse, and in collaboration with other members of the patient focused care team. Overall responsibilities include processing of orders, verification of forms for accuracy and completeness and dissemination of information on the unit.
Strong reading, writing, and simple math (add, subtract, multiply and divide) skills required. Successful completion of UCC training program is required. Previous health care or service-oriented field experience in an acute care health care setting is preferred.
