Senior / Principal Consultant – IBM Planning Analytics (TM1)
About the Role
Grandview is seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Consultant for IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) to join our growing consulting team.
This is a hands-on, client-facing consulting role for someone who knows Planning Analytics well enough to do more than simply develop against a set of requirements. We are looking for a consultant who can understand a client's business and financial planning challenges, design the right solution, build it, and lead the client through a successful implementation.
The ideal candidate has 5–7+ years of hands-on IBM Planning Analytics / TM1 experience and has participated in multiple full-lifecycle implementations.
This position combines solution architecture, hands-on development, implementation leadership, and client advisory responsibilities.
What You'll Do
As a Senior / Principal Planning Analytics Consultant, you will:
· Lead IBM Planning Analytics implementations from requirements and solution design through development, testing, deployment, and production support.
· Work directly with finance, FP&A, operations, and technology leaders to understand business requirements and translate them into effective Planning Analytics solutions.
· Architect multidimensional Planning Analytics models supporting budgeting, forecasting, planning, reporting, and financial analysis.
· Design and develop TM1 cubes, dimensions, hierarchies, rules, feeders, TurboIntegrator processes, and security models.
· Build intuitive planning and reporting applications using Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW).
· Develop and support Planning Analytics for Excel (PAfE) reports and planning applications.
· Design efficient data integration processes between Planning Analytics and ERP, financial, operational, and data warehouse environments.
· Optimize TM1 applications for performance, scalability, maintainability, and usability.
· Troubleshoot complex Planning Analytics models, calculations, feeders, integrations, and performance issues.
· Lead client workshops, requirements sessions, design reviews, demonstrations, and training.
· Provide technical and functional leadership to other consultants and developers throughout an engagement.
· Establish development standards and best practices for Planning Analytics implementations.
· Participate in solution estimation, project planning, and implementation strategy.
· Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders and serve as a senior Planning Analytics advisor throughout the engagement.
What We're Looking For
Required Experience
· 5–7+ years of hands-on IBM Planning Analytics / TM1 experience.
· Strong experience designing and developing enterprise TM1 applications.
· Demonstrated experience with:
o TM1 cubes and multidimensional modeling
o Dimensions and hierarchies
o TM1 Rules
o Feeders
o TurboIntegrator (TI)
o Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW)
o Planning Analytics for Excel (PAfE)
o TM1 security
o Data integration
o Application and model performance optimization
· Experience participating in multiple full-lifecycle Planning Analytics implementations.
· Strong understanding of Planning Analytics architecture and application design.
· Ability to independently troubleshoot complex TM1 applications.
· Experience working directly with business users and senior client stakeholders.
· Strong consulting, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Finance & Planning Experience
Because many of our Planning Analytics implementations support the Office of Finance, experience with financial planning and analysis is highly desirable.
Candidates should ideally understand several of the following:
· Budgeting and forecasting
· Financial planning
· Management reporting
· Income statements / P&L
· Balance sheets
· Cash flow
· Revenue planning
· Workforce and compensation planning
· Expense planning
· Capital planning
· Variance analysis
· Scenario and what-if analysis
· Financial allocations
The strongest candidates understand both how Planning Analytics works technically and how finance organizations actually use planning and forecasting applications to run the business.
Consulting Skills
Technical expertise is essential, but this is not a back-office development position.
Successful candidates must be comfortable working directly with clients and should be able to:
· Lead requirements and design sessions.
· Ask the right questions rather than simply document what the client requests.
· Explain complex Planning Analytics concepts in business terms.
· Challenge requirements when a better solution exists.
· Present solution designs and recommendations confidently.
· Manage client expectations and communicate project risks.
· Work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams.
· Take ownership of a solution from initial design through successful deployment.
Senior vs. Principal Level
Candidates may be considered at either the Senior Consultant or Principal Consultant level based on experience.
A Senior Consultant will typically be expected to independently design and develop significant portions of a Planning Analytics solution and lead client-facing workstreams.
A Principal Consultant will additionally be expected to own overall solution architecture, lead complex implementations, mentor other consultants, establish technical direction, and serve as trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders.
