About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Horizontal Machinist with a strong background in manual machining and hands-on CNC experience using FANUC controls. This is a priority opening for a skilled machinist who can confidently set up and operate horizontal machining equipment, interpret complex blueprints, and produce precision components while maintaining high standards for quality and accuracy.
The ideal candidate will bring strong conventional machining fundamentals along with the ability to work effectively with CNC equipment and FANUC controllers. This role is well suited for a hands-on machinist who understands the complete machining process—from setup and tooling selection through machining, inspection, and final part completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate horizontal manual and CNC machining equipment.
- Operate CNC machinery equipped with FANUC controls.
- Perform machine setups, including selecting and installing appropriate tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices.
- Read and accurately interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Machine components according to required dimensions, specifications, and tolerances.
- Perform machining operations such as milling, drilling, boring, facing, and related processes.
- Make machine adjustments and offsets as needed to maintain accuracy and part quality.
- Inspect completed parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, and quality-related issues.
- Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to improve machining efficiency.
- Maintain accurate production and inspection records as required.
- Perform routine machine care and support preventive maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company quality procedures and workplace safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Horizontal Machinist, Manual Machinist, CNC Machinist, Horizontal Boring Mill Machinist, or in a similar precision machining role.
- Strong hands-on experience with manual machining.
- CNC machining experience using a FANUC controller.
- Ability to independently perform machine setups and complete parts from blueprint to final inspection.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience selecting tooling, fixtures, speeds, and feeds.
- Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, workholding, and precision manufacturing.
- Ability to work within specified dimensions and close tolerances.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating horizontal CNC machining centers or horizontal boring mills.
- Experience with FANUC programming, program edits, offsets, and machine setup.
- Experience producing custom, low-volume, or precision-machined components.
- Familiarity with a variety of metals and machining applications.
- Experience working in a tool shop, machine shop, or custom manufacturing environment.
