Position Summary
The Iron Melt Quality Control Technician is responsible for monitoring and controlling the quality of molten iron throughout the melting process. This position ensures iron chemistry, temperature, and metallurgical properties meet customer specifications and company quality standards before pouring. The technician works closely with the Melt Department, Laboratory, and Production teams to maintain consistent casting quality while supporting a safe and efficient operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect molten iron samples and perform routine quality testing.
- Analyze iron chemistry using spectrometer and other laboratory equipment.
- Monitor and record melt temperatures throughout the production process.
- Verify carbon equivalent, carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, and other alloying elements meet specifications.
- Recommend alloy additions and chemistry adjustments as necessary.
- Maintain accurate melt records, quality reports, and production documentation.
- Monitor inoculation and treatment practices to ensure consistency.
- Assist in troubleshooting casting defects related to melt quality.
- Communicate quality concerns to Melt Supervisors, Foundry Engineers, and Production personnel.
- Ensure all testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
- Follow ISO quality procedures, customer specifications, and company quality standards.
- Participate in root cause investigations and continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and work area.
- Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety rules, and PPE requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
