Are you the COTA who sees the person—not the diagnosis?
We're looking for an exceptional Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) who is passionate about helping older adults living with dementia maintain purpose, dignity, and quality of life.
This isn't a traditional therapy position focused solely on exercises and ADLs. We're building a therapy program that emphasizes meaningful engagement, function, and person-centered dementia care.
You will work closely with an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist and under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to deliver evidence-based occupational therapy interventions that improve participation, independence, and overall well-being.
What You'll Do
- Deliver individualized occupational therapy interventions for residents living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
- Develop meaningful, occupation-based treatment sessions that maximize function and engagement.
- Incorporate sensory strategies, environmental modifications, cognitive support techniques, and caregiver education into treatment.
- Recognize when skilled therapy is appropriate and determine appropriate treatment frequency and duration based on clinical need.
- Collaborate with PT, OT, and SLP to create interdisciplinary treatment plans.
- Help residents remain active participants in their daily routines, relationships, and community life.
- Document services accurately while maintaining exceptional clinical quality.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Has a genuine passion for working with persons living with dementia.
- Understands dementia beyond memory loss and appreciates the importance of preserving identity, purpose, and meaningful occupation.
- Is skilled at engaging residents who may be withdrawn, resistant, or behaviorally complex.
- Thinks creatively and adapts interventions to each individual's cognitive abilities.
- Values teamwork and enjoys collaborating across therapy disciplines.
- Takes pride in delivering exceptional, evidence-based care.
- Is dependable, compassionate, and accountable.
Qualifications
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license.
- Experience in senior living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or geriatrics preferred.
- Strong knowledge of dementia care best practices strongly preferred.
- Experience with sensory integration, cognitive interventions, and occupation-based programming is highly valued.
