Compensation: $135,000 - $165,000 per year
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join our highly specialized public accounting and litigation support firm. At our core, we believe in providing our clients with the "ounce of prevention" that proactive tax compliance and planning delivers. In addition to traditional compliance, we are nationwide leaders in high-stakes tax controversy, civil and criminal tax litigation support, forensic accounting, and voluntary disclosures.
In this role, you will lead complex tax engagements for closely held corporations, their shareholders, and high-net-worth individuals, serving as a trusted advisor while supporting our specialized controversy and litigation practices.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Planning: Manage, prepare, and review federal, California, and multi-state tax returns for closely held corporations, partnerships, trusts, and shareholders.
Controversy & Audit Support: Assist in managing complex tax controversy cases, including audit representation before the IRS, Franchise Tax Board (FTB), and Employment Development Department (EDD).
Voluntary Disclosures: Support engagements involving offshore income, foreign bank account disclosures (FBAR/OVDP), late tax returns, and non-filer resolution.
Forensic & Litigation Integration: Collaborate closely with partners on forensic accounting, asset tracing, and litigation support engagements, including corporate disputes and economic damages calculations.
Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and review the work of senior and staff accountants to maintain technical excellence and meet strict filing deadlines.
Requirements
Experience: 5+ years of progressive public accounting experience with a strong foundation in corporate, shareholder, and individual taxation.
Education & Credentials: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Economics (Master's in Taxation is a major plus); active CPA license required.
Technical Skills: Deep familiarity with complex transaction planning, multi-state tax regulations, and IRS/state taxing authority procedures.
Attributes: High analytical proficiency, professional skepticism, and a client-first advisory mindset. Excellent communication skills are essential to discuss complex tax and controversy concepts cleanly.
