Family and Community Engagement Coordinator
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Family and Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in building and sustaining strong partnerships among families, scholars, the school, and the broader community. The coordinator serves as a primary point of connection for families and works collaboratively with school leadership, teachers, staff, parents, and community partners to promote meaningful family involvement and support scholar success.
The Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing family engagement initiatives, strengthening home-school communication, increasing parent participation, connecting families with appropriate resources, and creating opportunities for families to become active partners in their children's education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
FAMILY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Serves as a welcoming and accessible point of contact for parents and families.

Helps families understand school programs, policies, academic expectations, assessments, progress reports, report cards, and parent rights and responsibilities.

Provides leadership and coordination for monthly parent town hall meetings and other family engagement events.

Creates meaningful opportunities for parents and families to participate in the education of their children.

Establishes and meets regularly with a Parent Involvement Committee or other parent leadership group.

Coordinates the school's parent volunteer program, including ongoing recruitment, orientation, training, and volunteer recognition.

Strengthens home-school relationships by facilitating positive, proactive, and consistent communication between families and educators.
- Initiates and responds to parent phone calls, emails, and written correspondence regarding family involvement and school-related concerns.

Works with school leadership to increase participation among families who have traditionally been less engaged in school activities.

Develops relationships with community organizations and partners that can provide resources, programs, and opportunities for scholars and families.

Maintains a strong and consistent social media presence to support parent and community engagement.

Promotes family and community activities through parent newsletters, the school website, social media, flyers, and in-person events.

Assists the school in obtaining important parent documentation, surveys, acknowledgments, and other requested information.

- FAMILY PROGRAM COORDINATION

Develops, implements, and oversees family and community engagement initiatives aligned with the school's mission, goals, and priorities.

Creates an annual calendar of parent and family engagement activities.

Collaborates with school administrators, teachers, and staff to identify family needs and develop appropriate programs and supports.

Coordinates family events, workshops, information sessions, celebrations, and community-building activities.

Identifies community organizations and resources that can provide additional support to scholars and families.

Serves as a liaison between families and appropriate school personnel when additional assistance or intervention is needed.

- ACADEMIC AND PARENT SUPPORT

Coordinates academic learning opportunities and workshops for parents at flexible times in collaboration with school leadership and instructional staff.

Plans and coordinates monthly or bi-monthly academically focused parent workshops.

Helps parents understand progress reports, assessments, report cards, academic expectations, and available scholar supports.

Develops and maintains a Parent Resource Center, library, or designated family resource area within the school.

Identifies and maintains appropriate educational materials and resources for families.

Provides parents with information and guidance on how to use educational resources to support learning at home.

Collaborates with teachers and school leaders to provide families with practical strategies for supporting scholar achievement, attendance, behavior, and overall development.

- FAMILY RESOURCES AND SUPPORT

Helps identify scholars and families experiencing housing instability or other circumstances that may require additional school or community support.

Connects families with appropriate school, community, and social-service resources.

Maintains confidential and accurate records of resources and assistance provided to families.

Follows up with families, when appropriate, to determine whether additional assistance is needed.

Develops and maintains relationships with community-based organizations that can provide services and resources to families.

- DATA MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING

Maintains accurate records of parent participation in meetings, workshops, events, volunteer activities, and other family engagement initiatives.

Tracks family engagement data and identifies trends in participation.

Uses participation data and parent feedback to recommend strategies for strengthening family engagement.

Administers and collects parent surveys and other feedback tools.

Prepares periodic reports for school leadership regarding family participation, activities, concerns, needs, and outcomes.

Maintains organized documentation of family and community engagement programs and activities.

Supports a welcoming school environment in which parents and families feel respected, valued, and connected.

Promotes positive communication between the school and its families.

Works collaboratively with school leadership to communicate important information to families in a timely and accessible manner.

Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgment when addressing sensitive family or scholar matters.
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience in family engagement, education, community outreach, social services, or a related area preferred.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with parents, families, scholars, staff, and community partners.

Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Strong planning and event coordination skills.

Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and maintain accurate records.

Comfortable using social media, electronic communication platforms, and basic office technology.
