Mechanical Technician
Pay Rate: $18.00 $21.00/hr DOE
Employment Type: Contract (Approximately 12 months; extension possible)
Schedule: Monday Friday, Day Shift
Location: Wilmington, NC (100% Onsite)

As a Project Technician, you will provide hands-on mechanical support for the installation, troubleshooting, and startup of new or modified production equipment. You will spend the majority of your time on the manufacturing floor, moving projects from the construction phase through to successful turnover to operations.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Startup: Perform hands-on installation, debug, and testing of automated systems and mechanical equipment at domestic and international sites.
Supervision: Lead and direct internal maintenance teams and outside contractors during equipment demolition, construction, and conversion.
Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and correct equipment issues, replace defective components, and redesign mechanical parts to resolve interferences or design flaws.
Project Planning: Assist in developing timelines and ensuring all work meets safety, quality, and intellectual property standards.
Documentation: Review and update installation checklists, machine part lists, and drawing packages (redlining).
Procurement: Identify and order materials needed for equipment builds and modifications.
Training: Provide technical training to maintenance staff and contractors on new equipment procedures.
Required Qualifications
Education: AAS or BS in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or Mechanical Engineering).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with hand tools, precision alignment devices, and measurement instruments.
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
Strong understanding of drive trains, electrical/pneumatic actuators, and process variables (flow, pressure, temperature).
Safety: A proactive, safety-first mindset for all job site activities.
Soft Skills: Strong teamwork, self-motivation, and the ability to present technical information to leadership.
Desired Skills
Experience in a manufacturing or construction environment.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Teams).
Familiarity with optical fiber manufacturing and precision calibration tools (e.g., Fluke meters).
Travel & Schedule
Travel: Ability to travel to various North Carolina sites. Travel varies by project phase, ranging from a few days to full-time (3 9 months) during major deployments.
Schedule: 40+ hours per week, M F, with adjusted hours or weekends required based on project milestones.
