Associate Attorney
Title: Associate Attorney (4+ years) - Civil & Commercial Litigation
Location: Schaumburg, IL
Compensation: Base $110K-$140K + 15% bonus when you bill 1800 hours
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Associate Attorney with 4+ years of practice to join our firms civil and commercial litigation team. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload including contract disputes, construction and contractor matters, and real estate litigation and transactional work. This role requires strong courtroom skills, excellent contract drafting and negotiation abilities, and the capacity to deliver practical legal advice to clients while supporting firm partners.
Key Responsibilities

Manage a caseload of civil and commercial litigation matters from intake through disposition, including pretrial preparation and trial support.

Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, and other litigation documents.

Negotiate, draft, review and advise on a variety of contracts, including construction contracts, contractor agreements, leases, purchase and sale agreements, and service agreements.

Advise clients on construction, contractor, and real estate issues, providing practical risk assessments and strategic guidance.

Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on complex issues of civil, commercial, contract and construction law.

Handle discovery, e-discovery, and witness preparation; coordinate with experts, consultants, and outside counsel as needed.

Appear at court hearings, mediations, arbitrations and trials; represent clients in state and federal courts as appropriate.

Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys to develop case strategy, participate in client meetings, and support business development efforts.

Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, associates and paralegals; manage case budgets, billing and docket deadlines.
Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Admission to practice in Illinois

4+ years experience with substantial work in civil and commercial litigation.

Demonstrated experience drafting, negotiating and enforcing contracts, including construction and contractor agreements.

Experience handling real estate-related matters and construction disputes preferred.

Proven courtroom and ADR experience, including motion practice, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation.

Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills; ability to produce clear, persuasive pleadings and client communications.

Excellent client-facing skills, professional presence, and the ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines independently.

Familiarity with litigation support tools, e-discovery platforms, docketing and timekeeping/billing systems.

Self-motivated, team-oriented, with demonstrated ability to contribute to business development and client retention.
