Position Summary:
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving census growth through strategic relationship development, market expansion, referral source engagement, and community outreach. This position serves as a key representative of the hospice organization, cultivating partnerships with hospitals, physician groups, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living communities, home health agencies, and other healthcare providers. The Business Development Manager works collaboratively with clinical and operational teams to support patient admissions, increase market share, and ensure the organization's growth objectives are achieved.
Essential Functions:
Referral Development & Market Growth
· Develop and execute territory-specific business development plans to achieve admission and census goals.
· Establish and maintain referral relationships with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), assisted living facilities (ALFs), physicians, home health agencies, rehabilitation centers, and community organizations.
· Conduct regular in-person and virtual sales calls with referral sources.
· Identify and develop new business opportunities within assigned territories.
· Monitor referral patterns and develop strategies to increase market penetration.
· Maintain a consistent presence within the healthcare community.
Relationship Management
· Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned referral sources.
· Build trust and credibility among healthcare professionals and community partners.
· Respond promptly to referral source concerns and service-related issues.
· Collaborate with clinical leadership and operational teams to ensure referral source satisfaction.
· Foster long-term strategic partnerships that support organizational growth.
Education & Community Outreach
· Educate healthcare professionals, patients, families, and community members regarding hospice services, eligibility requirements, and benefits.
· Coordinate and deliver educational programs, in-services, lunch-and-learns, and presentations.
· Represent the organization at networking events, community programs, health fairs, and professional association meetings.
· Promote awareness of hospice and palliative care services throughout the community.
Strategic Planning & Performance Management
- Analyze market trends, competitor activity, referral patterns, and growth opportunities.
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to meet and exceed growth objectives.
- Participate in marketing planning, budgeting, and territory development activities.
- Provide leadership with market intelligence and recommendations for expansion opportunities.
- Collaborate with admission and clinical teams to support timely referral conversion.
Documentation, Reporting and Compliance
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation of referral activities within the EMR and CRM system.
· Track referral source interactions, admission outcomes, and sales performance metrics.
· Prepare regular activity reports and pipeline updates for leadership review.
· Analyze and report key performance indicators related to census growth and referral development.
· Complete all required compliance and organizational documentation.
· Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing hospice operations.
· Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and ethical business practices.
· Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
· Must complete a minimum of 6 hours of initial training in the first 60 days of employment as required by the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia’s Services Act.
· Other duties as delegated by Supervisor.
Qualifications/Skills/ Educational Requirements:
Level of Formal Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Area of Study: Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, Nursing, Communications, or related field.
Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years of healthcare sales, hospice, home health, or business development experience.
Type of Experience: Experience developing referral sources and generating admissions within healthcare settings preferred.
Special Certifications: NA
Language Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
Technical Competencies: Ability to document in CRM, EMR and read/respond to emails.

Pay: From $85,000.00 per year
