Job Summary:
Perform a variety of interpretation, translation and SVMS services to assist non-English-speaking patients receiving care within Shenandoah Valley Medical System.
Role & Responsibilities:

Participate as a neutral party in the role as a conduit of information that must flow between SVMS staff and the patient.

Ensure that information pertaining to the patient’s services, hospitalization, (advanced directives, consents from treatment, diagnosis and prognosis, treatment plan, follow-up appointments and Health Care Education) are accurately communicated.

The patient’s questions/concerns regarding this information is appropriately addressed.

Provide interpreter services, and convey the exact message as opposed to summarizing information in a way that is subjective.

Promote customer satisfaction related to SVMS services; notify Supervisor of any issues that may be problematic for patients or SVMS staff.

Participate in continuing education programs and competency training to enhance professional role of International Medical escort.

Ensure that all policies and procedures related to process, service, and employee work rules are followed.

Maintain all confidential matters related to patient care and visitor issues on non-English speaking patients/families/escorts.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Answer phone calls from Spanish line. Relay messages to providers, nurses, referrals, medical records.

Schedule, confirm, cancel, or reschedule appointments as requested per patients and SCH staff.

Updating the EHR (Electronic Health Record)

Assist patients as needed in the proper completion of registration, and financial forms; answer any questions to ensure patient understands in a clear and effective manner.

Assisting patients with Primary Care, Women’s Health, Pediatrics, Behavioral Health, Pharmacy, Lactation Consultant, Diabetic Educators and with questions/concerns/clarification/refill requests regarding all these departments.
Qualifications & Education Requirements:

Flexible schedule with evening coverage required

High-School Diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education preferred.

Medical Interpreter Certification or Bridging the Gap highly recommended or actively working toward this.

Successful completion of conversation/translation competency testing in secondary language, knowledge of Medical Terminology, and language proficiency test.

Possess good listening and communication skills.

Office skills including word processing, data entry, and record keeping principles.

Possess the ability to work in a courteous and professional demeanor with patients, co-workers, and community contacts.

Demonstrate a friendly, patient, and compassionate demeanor when dealing with people, even in difficult situations.
