Condition of Employment:
- Employee must pay initial $100 licensure fee to the Department of Public Instruction for the Special Education Aide license.
- Must meet criteria for DPI highly qualified. You will need to have an Associate degree (or 48 credits) or pass an online assessment.
Functions: A Special Education Paraprofessional may be asked to perform the following:
- Prepares educational materials under the direction of the teacher and other appropriate professionals.
- Assists students in mastering self-help skills; i.e.: toileting, diapering, feeding, positioning, lifting, etc.
- Performs tube feedings and therapeutics with students as assigned.
- Operates and cares for instructional equipment, assistive technology, and other augmentative devices.
- Carries out instructional tasks planned by the teacher and other appropriate professionals for individual students or groups of students.
- Assists students in the lunchroom, playground, or other areas as assigned.
- Attends staff development sessions as directed by the district.
- Maintains the district’s standards relative to the confidentiality of information about students and school related concerns.
- Attends to the safety and well-being of all students, including but not limited to, the use of universal precautions as per blood borne pathogens training.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher or administrator.
