Director of Quality Assurance – Taxation

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Quality Assurance – Taxation to lead the firm's quality control and compliance initiatives across tax and accounting engagements. This leadership role is responsible for establishing and maintaining quality assurance standards, ensuring compliance with professional accounting and auditing standards, overseeing internal inspections and peer review readiness, and providing technical guidance and training to accounting professionals.
The ideal candidate will have extensive public accounting experience, strong technical expertise in tax and assurance services, and proven leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain firm-wide quality assurance policies and procedures.
- Review financial statements prepared by accounting staff for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Perform quality reviews of audits, reviews, and compilation engagements.
- Monitor adherence to firm quality standards and recommend process improvements.
- Stay current with new accounting, auditing, and tax regulations, ensuring timely implementation throughout the firm.
- Develop and deliver technical training for staff, managers, and partners.
- Lead the firm's internal inspection process, including engagement reviews and corrective action planning.
- Serve as the primary liaison during external peer reviews.
- Evaluate and recommend accounting, audit, and tax software solutions to improve efficiency.
- Monitor Continuing Professional Education (CPE) compliance for accounting professionals.
- Supervise and mentor a team of junior and senior accountants.
- Assist managers with workflow planning, engagement scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Manage a portfolio of client engagements, including tax return preparation and financial statement review.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while supporting business development efforts.
- Participate in special projects and other firm initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field..
- 10–15+ years of public accounting experience.
- Strong background in tax compliance, financial statement preparation, audits, reviews, and compilations.
- Experience conducting or coordinating peer reviews.
- Previous management or leadership experience within a public accounting firm.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and professional quality control standards.
- Experience reviewing corporate and partnership tax returns.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to mentor staff and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing firm-wide quality assurance programs.
- Experience leading internal inspections and regulatory compliance initiatives.
- Strong technical research skills related to accounting and tax standards.
- Experience implementing process improvements and accounting technologies.
