Position Overview:
As a Youth Mentor with the Big Homie Program, you will engage, guide, and supervise at-risk and engaged youth, including those on probation, through mentorship, activities, and community programs. Your lived experience will play a crucial role in building meaningful relationships with youth and fostering positive behavioral, academic, and personal development. Additionally, you will coordinate resources, schedules, and events, working closely with volunteers, service providers, and the Big Homie team to ensure the success of our programs.
Responsibilities:
Youth Mentorship and Support:
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and encouragement to at-risk and engaged youth.
- Actively listen to and engage youth in conversations, building trust and rapport.
- Help youth set and achieve specific goals identified by case managers.
- Promote positive attitudes, good habit formation, and behavioral improvement.
- Assist youth with academic support and encourage their educational goals.
Activity and Program Coordination:
- Help plan, lead, and coordinate recreational activities, community events, and field trips.
- Arrange locations, schedules, and resources for programs and activities.
- Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all youth and employees.
- Assist with the development and execution of anti-gang violence campaigns.
Administrative Support:
- Assist in tracking and reporting participation in programs and activities.
- Maintain up-to-date program forms, materials, and resources.
- Participate in planning and delivering training and development for volunteers and staff.
- Support social media engagement and media outreach, including flyers and podcasts.
Program Support and Collaboration:
- Assist with volunteer coordination, including scheduling and training.
- Collaborate with fellow Big Homie programs and personnel as needed.
- Serve as a Big Homie Program ambassador, promoting its mission and vision in the community.
Requirements:
- Must have lived experience that allows for meaningful mentorship and connection with youth.
- Experience or willingness to work with youth on probation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Computer proficient
- must have a high school diploma or GED
- Ability to plan, organize, and execute activities and programs effectively.
- Commitment to creating a positive and supportive environment for youth.
- Flexibility to participate in ongoing professional development and training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with at-risk youth or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of community resources and support systems.
- Social media or content creation experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to participate in physical activities and events as needed.
- Willingness to travel locally for activities and events.
Other Duties:
Additional duties may be assigned to meet program and organizational needs.
