Maintenance Career Opportunities!
Maintenance Technician (Entry-Level – $21.12/hr.)
Entry level facility maintenance performing hands-on, general labor and support tasks across county buildings. Assist skilled trades staff, complete basic maintenance and repairs, and build foundational knowledge of building systems while working under close supervision.
Maintenance Mechanic I (Skilled – $23.98/hr.)
A skilled role performing moderately complex maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems. Work under general supervision to complete inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs while continuing to develop technical expertise.
Maintenance Mechanic II (Advanced – DOE)
Operate with greater independence performing advanced, skilled maintenance and troubleshooting. In addition to performing complex repairs and preventative maintenance, provide lead direction and training to less experienced staff, interpret plans and technical documents, and help plan and schedule maintenance activities to support efficient operations.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of county buildings and their associated grounds. The duties assigned will require the ability to perform heavy physical labor efficiently. The position is located in the Ada County Operations Department.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Maintenance Technician works under the general supervision a Maintenance Supervisor who will assign the details of each specific assignment. Additional direction may be received from a designee.
The Maintenance Mechanic I performs varied moderately complex work under general supervision according to pre-defined guidelines.
The Maintenance Mechanic II can be distinguished from the Maintenance Mechanic I by demonstrating advanced technical ability, troubleshooting complex problems and applying leadership and communication skills to provide creative solutions to solve complex situations.
The Lead Maintenance Mechanic can be distinguished from the Maintenance Mechanic I and Maintenance Mechanic II by directly supervising Mechanics I & II in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor and applies leadership and communication skills to provide creative solutions to solve complex situations.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintenance Technician
-
Cleans gutters, culverts, sewers and other drainage structures;
-
Loads and unloads stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, lumber, snow removal and heavy mechanical equipment;
-
Assists in a helper capacity, in semi-skilled work such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, auto repair and concrete work by retrieving tools, moving lumber, mixing or stirring concrete etc.;

Unloads materials and equipment from delivery trucks;
-
Completes records for receipt of shipments;
-
Delivers boxes/packages, mail, etc.;
-
Operates larger automotive equipment;
-
May train in the operation of riding rotary mowers;
-
May perform simple pruning of trees and shrubs;
-
Perform various tasks such as trash pick-up/removal, operating a small floor scrubbing machine and light janitorial duties.
Maintenance Mechanic I
-
Performs visual examinations and/or operational tests to determine the need for routine repair of building roofs, plumbing fixtures, concrete fixtures, mechanical and electrical systems, and HVAC systems;
-
Performs scheduled and routine maintenance on mechanical, electrical and heating systems;
-
Installs, services and repairs ventilation units, electrical appliances, and other related equipment;
-
Installs plumbing fixtures such as lavatory facilities, drinking fountains and sprinkling systems;
-
Repairs plumbing systems by clearing stoppages, replacing sections of broken pipe and repair of leaky drains etc.;
-
Paints walls and other surfaces by using standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling, and spraying; and
-
Performs a variety of carpentry tasks such as building forms constructing or repairing dry walls, sheathing, etc.;

Mixes, pours, spreads and levels concrete on surfaces and structures such as sidewalks, steps, walls, curbs, ramps, etc.;

Fixes, replaces and refinishes floors and doors and replaces locks;
-
Cleans, maintains and repairs boilers and replaces parts as needed;
-
Performs roof maintenance;
-
Repairs and relocates cabinets, desks, tables and other office furniture;
-
Repairs window frames and screens;
-
Lays floor tile and carpeting.
Maintenance Mechanic II
-
Performs functions of Maintenance Mechanic I;
-
Performs lead work;
-
Serves as a trainer;
-
Represents department in internal and external meetings;
-
Interprets plans, specifications, and manuals;
-
Plans and schedules maintenance activities.
Lead Maintenance Mechanic
-
Performs visual examinations and/or operational tests to determine the need for routine repair of building roofs, plumbing fixtures, concrete fixtures, mechanical and electrical systems, and roof roofs, plumbing fixtures, concrete, fixtures, mechanical and electrical systems and HVAC systems;

Performs all the essential functions of the position of Maintenance Mechanic I and II as required;

Acts as a delegate to Maintenance Supervisor in their absence;

Directly supervises Maintenance Mechanics in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor;
-
Oversees, trains, leads and verifies work of Maintenance Mechanics I & II;

Represents department in internal and external meetings;
-
Interprets plans, specifications, and manuals;
-
Plans and schedules maintenance activities.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Welds metal for fabrication or repair of heavy equipment parts;

Removes snow;
-
Occasionally operates equipment or works as a laborer;

Performs related functions as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
- Incumbent makes inspections/repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms and where parts worked on may be in hard to reach places;
-
The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions;
-
The incumbent frequently carries tools and equipment and may be required to lift up to 50lbs.;
-
The work is performed inside and outside and is sometimes dirty, dusty and greasy;
-
The work performed may be in and around a jail facility and involves an element of personal danger;
-
May be exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, burns, cuts or bruises.
