POSITION: Communities in Schools/ Social Worker/ Student Succuss Coach
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Student Support Services
EMPLOYMENT TERM: 200 Days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-4-7a; extended employment days may be established by HCBOE
SALARY:Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Hampshire County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level plus competitive benefits package
equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and HCBOE Evaluation Policy
Job Summary:
PREFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communities in Schools/ Social Worker

Provide school social work services to individuals, groups and families, using appropriate therapeutic strategies commensurate with license level.

Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams (ex. SAT), and provide consultation to school personnel regarding home, neighborhood and community conditions that may affect student well-being and improved school climate.

Demonstrate knowledge of district, state and federal policies, including due process guidelines, child abuse/neglect regarding and abide by HIPAA and FERPA standards

Collaborate with school staff to assess, identify, and prioritize student needs and make appropriate linkages to needed academic, physical or social services to children in need.

Where offered, coordinate and/or support after-school services offered to students.

Coordinate opportunities for students to participate in service-learning, character education, soft skills, marketable vocation skills, STEM, literacy, and other areas identified school-wide and by individual students as ways to increase the success of students.

Coordinate and support parent involvement activities, engage in efforts to strengthen the number of parents involved in school programming including partnerships with Title 1 and PTA/PTO.

Maintain records and documentation in a manner consistent with the most recent version of the NASW Code of Ethics

Work collaboratively with school counselors, school psychologists, administrators and school staff.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

Attend all meeting and trainings as directed.

Student Success Coach

Provide academic support- By offering support through any types of barriers that the student/family may be facing. They would be communicating with the student's teachers to make sure that grades are in good standing. If the student needs after school tutoring they can assist the family with getting them signed up and any transportation needs. Helping the student navigate any challenge to stay on track academically.

The liaison would make sure that the student and family have increased access to resources. Making sure that basic needs are met such as clothing and transportation.

The liaison would provide personalized support-One to one support would be provided to identify and address specific needs. Making sure that the student and family aware of different outside services that they may need and making helping them get in contact with these services. (Counseling, housing, medical.)

The liaison would help these students by addressing school attendance and engagement making sure that barriers are addressed that are preventing the student from attending or being engaged academically.

The liaison would build a positive relationship between the school and the family/student.

Documentation of all contact would be kept. Phone calls, student meetings, parent/ guardian contact, counseling/ housing/ medical referrals. Monthly meetings with the Student Support Services Director with an agenda and minutes will be kept.

Only focus on foster and homeless students
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program preferred. West Virginia Board of Social Work Licensure (LSW, LGSW, LCSW or LICSW.) required. Experience working with children and families especially in a school setting.
Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
