We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Furnace Tender / Metal Transfer Operator to join our brass foundry team.

This position is responsible for charging, melting, monitoring, and transferring molten brass while maintaining production quality, efficiency, and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a manufacturing or foundry environment and be comfortable working around high temperatures and heavy equipment.
Duties
- Charge furnaces with brass ingots, scrap, and alloy materials according to production specifications.
- Monitor furnace temperatures and metal chemistry to ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Skim slag and impurities from molten metal as required.
- Transfer molten brass safely using ladles, transfer vessels, or other material handling equipment.
- Deliver molten metal to casting operations while maintaining proper temperatures.
- Follow established melt procedures and alloy recipes.
- Record production data, temperatures, material usage, and process information accurately.
- Perform routine inspections of furnaces, transfer equipment, and related systems.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or quality issues immediately.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with housekeeping and safety standards.
- Maintain safety standards during all operations by following established procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Perform routine inspections of equipment and tooling, troubleshoot issues promptly, and coordinate maintenance or repairs when necessary.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous foundry, furnace operation, metal melting, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience handling molten metal is a plus.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety procedures, and production schedules.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a high-temperature industrial environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to wear heat-resistant PPE, including protective clothing, gloves, face shield, and safety footwear.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and foundry environment with exposure to heat, dust, noise, and molten metal.
