What you will do:
Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in handling bulk loading of Portland cement into railcars and trucks for shipment to customers and terminals. Communicating with direct management in respective region, and delegating tasks accordingly. Promote the use of GCC of America products through active membership in professional organizations and societies.
- Works with Logistics regarding quantity, type of cement, mode of shipment and related information necessary to load trucks and/or rail cars for shipment to customers and terminals.
- Coordinates with terminals to determine method of transportation, rail or truck, and types of cement needed. Utilizes shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
- Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments. Make daily measurement of product in loading bins to assure adequate supplies of cement for shipment. Responsible for collection of cement from bins, rail cars, and trucks for quality control purposes. Maintains accuracy of loading scales by requesting checks by manufacturer and state inspectors.
- Makes periodic contacts with truck carriers relative to availability of trucks and arrival times during peak shipping seasons.
- Places requisitions for materials and parts from storeroom and vendors.
- Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. Monitors cement transporting and loading equipment for proper operation and lubrication. Maintains inventory of types of cement.
- Participate in developing the annual departmental budget.
- Directs the work of employees assigned to operation of the bulk loading, weighing stations, locomotive and forklift operators as well as material handling and car.
- Advises perspective employees and current employees of job duties and responsibilities during bidding procedures; observe and evaluate performance; arrange for vacations and other time off; review daily timecards for employee attendance; check for work order and equipment numbers and approve hours worked, including overtime; and inform employees of polices and practice and ensure adherence.
- Will maintain and enforce a safe working environment, adhere to safety policies and practices, supervise daily housekeeping of assigned area, adhere to all GCC policies and procedures along with proper use of plant radios.
- Ensure quality of work performed, support, promote and utilize continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure.
- Will travel to provide support for other US Logistics Terminals, as needed.
- Will assist in setup/maintenance/rebuild/teardown portable Terminals and supervise construction crews when needed.
- Be familiar with MSHA and OSHA safety rules, safety procedures for mobile equipment, lockout/tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents and other environmentally sensitive materials.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical work experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities needed:
- Required: 3+ years of experience in the cement industry, shipping or transportation industry and or training
- Desired: Knowledge and ability to utilize computer software in monitoring and tracking data.
- Desired: Previous supervisory experience or other responsible position.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to communicate with customers, employees of the rail and trucking industry, vendors, visitors and employees.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
