Accountant / Finance Manager
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt | Location: Brookline, MA | Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary
NECS seeks a detail-oriented Accountant/Finance Manager to lead financial operations. This role handles daily accounting, financial reporting, grant compliance, and budget oversight, reporting to the Executive Director. Candidates should have 3+ years of relevant experience, ideally in nonprofits or public service, and thrive in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage AP/AR, invoices, payments, reimbursements
- Maintain general ledger and oversee closing cycles
- Prepare financial statements and reports
- Reconcile accounts monthly (QuickBooks)
- Monitor grant/contract budgets for compliance
- Prepare reports for grants, contracts, and DCF
- Support audits and maintain documentation
- Process bi-weekly payroll (ADP)
- Handle benefits billing, reconciliations, and deductions
- Ensure tax filing compliance (941s, W-2s, 1099s)
- Assist with annual and program budgets
- Track revenue/expenses; provide analysis
- Support special projects (foundation setup, cost allocation)
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 3+ years’ accounting/finance experience (nonprofit/government a plus)
- Proficient in QuickBooks and Excel
- Knowledge of nonprofit/fund accounting & grant compliance
- Detail-oriented, organized, meets deadlines
- Strong communicator
Preferred:
- ADP payroll experience
- Familiarity with DCF or MA state reporting
- Foundation/multi-entity nonprofit experience
- CPA or working toward CPA
Work Environment & Schedule
This full-time exempt role is based in Brookline, MA. The standard schedule is Monday–Friday, with four on-site days and one remote day each week. Occasional travel and some evening or weekend hours may be needed.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
