Position Summary:
The Custodian will be responsible for daily cleaning and sanitizing of offices, classrooms, and residential areas to ensure a safe and pleasing space for working, learning, and living. This position requires an understanding of cleaning, the use of chemicals, and equipment used for deep cleaning of flooring, and has a strong commitment to safety and efficiency. To be successful in this role, the individual must have a proven track record of exceptional workmanship, efficient problem solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Clean and sanitize/disinfect all indoor areas of campus using established practices and procedures, including bathrooms, offices, rooms / apartments, lobbies, common areas, classrooms, labs, outdoor stadiums, and other facilities. Refill restroom dispensers and empty wastebaskets.
Cleaning includes - dust and wipe furniture and baseboards; clean white boards or chalkboards and trays; sweep, mop or vacuum floors, accessible interior and exterior windows and blinds, replace soap / sanitizer, toilet tissue / paper towels, empty trash and recycling bins, take to proper disposal area
Maintain inventory of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and all supplies
Maintain security of assigned keys or access cards; lock and unlock doors on a designated schedule
Report maintenance concerns to the Campus Operations Coordinator (for example, light bulbs out, broken fixtures/appliances, damage to walls or furniture)
Periodic heavy cleaning such as cleaning hard surface floors (strip and resurface) and shampooing carpets.
Maintain regular, predictable attendance on campus in accordance with University policy.
Attend / complete all required safety training and meetings (e.g., OSHA, machinery operation training, Bloodborne pathogens, fire safety, etc). Follow all safety practices and policies.
Assist as needed with preparation for events (tables, chairs, trash receptacles)
Support additional functions and services provided by the Campus Service Center (grounds, maintenance tasks such as, but not limited to minor repairs, preventative maintenance, painting, changing air filters / cleaning HVAC units, laying carpet/LVT, snow/ ice removal, disaster clean up, etc)
Other job duties/responsibilities may be assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to follow instructions regarding the use of supplies, chemicals, equipment, and use as directed.
Ability to use floor cleaning equipment
Ability to safely operate golf carts / UTVs, trucks, etc.
Some night and weekend hours are necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proven experience working in a cleaning environment in a commercial or industrial setting is preferred.
Valid Driver's License
Excellent active listening, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Self-motivated, independent, and reliable with a strong work ethic.
Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds and be physically able to stand, walk, climb, squat, kneel, push, pull, twist, bend, lift and carry items.
