Family Law Legal Administrative Assistant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Legal Assistant to join our reputable Family Law firm. The position offers the opportunity to work with experienced attorneys and staff supporting clients navigating sensitive family law matters.
The person in this role would serve as the first point of contact for clients and incoming callers. Empathy and patience are a prerequisite. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years working in a professional or legal setting and must be comfortable IT systems and multiple software platforms, once trained. The candidate should exhibit excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with paralegals and other administrative staff who are off-site.
Role Description
This is an on-site role based in Morehead City, NC for a Legal Assistant supporting one attorney, a Board-Certified Specialist in Family Law. The role is potentially full-time for the right candidate. This individual will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities and administrative duties, including managing client intake and communications, scheduling client appointments, maintaining the attorney’s calendar and docketing case deadlines, managing legal documents and client files, answering the phone, preparing and sending out engagement letters, ordering office supplies, e-filing and serving documents, and drafting and proofreading legal documents.
Qualifications
- Proficiency with legal software and general office technology, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Clio, Simple Certified Mail, ShareFile, and NC eCourts File & Serve
- Strong Administrative and Calendaring Skills to support office and case management
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to cooperate and collaborate effectively as part of a team in hybrid work environments
- Willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities as the attorney’s caseload and practice grows
- Previous experience in family law a plus
- Notary Public or willingness to obtain Notary a plus
