Duties
- Safely operate various types of trucks including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and refrigerated trailers across diverse routes.
- Plan and follow efficient routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules while complying with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations.
- Load and unload freight with precision, utilizing manual handling techniques, forklifts, or other equipment as needed for cargo such as hazardous materials or heavy logistics cargo.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous substances.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety and readiness, adhering to DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, deliveries, and vehicle maintenance records in accordance with DOT standards.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route changes, delivery statuses, or any issues encountered on the road.
Skills
- Proven experience in delivery driving, truck driving, or over-the-road (OTR) routes with a focus on safety and efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of commercial truck driving regulations including FMCSA and DOT standards for safety and cargo handling.
- Proficiency in GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time tracking.
- Ability to handle different types of trucks such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, refrigerated trailers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, or freight carriers.
- Skilled in load & unload procedures with experience in truck loading/unloading techniques for various cargo types including hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
- Familiarity with manual transmission vehicles and manual handling practices for logistics cargo handling.
- Ability to operate specialized equipment such as forklifts when necessary for cargo management.
- Excellent driving record with a focus on safe driving practices under all conditions.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations and safety protocols for transporting dangerous goods safely.
