Overview
Alaska Public Risk Alliance (APRA) is a nonprofit Joint Insurance Arrangement that provides workers’ compensation, liability, property coverage, and risk management services to municipalities and school districts throughout Alaska. We are seeking a service-oriented professional to develop and deliver loss control services for APRA members, provide practical risk management guidance, conduct training and facility inspections, and help member organizations address safety and risk-related challenges. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful statewide impact by supporting public entities, advancing practical risk reduction strategies, and contributing to safer workplaces and communities across Alaska. What You’ll Do
The Risk Management Consultant works under the direction of the Risk Services/HR Director and collaborates with APRA staff, partners, and members to provide responsive, practical, and professional risk services.
- Develop and support APRA’s comprehensive loss control program, including manuals, materials, resources, and educational content.
- Create and deliver risk management and safety training in person, virtually, and through recorded presentations.
- Conduct on-site and virtual inspections of member facilities and provide clear reports with findings, safety citations, and proposed resolutions.
- Gather member information during site visits to support underwriting exposure evaluations.
- Respond to member inquiries and help identify practical solutions to reduce risk and improve safety practices.
- Review underwriting and loss data to identify trends and recommend available solutions.
- Participate in conferences and outreach efforts to promote APRA services and provide risk management education.
- Help coordinate risk management conferences, agendas, presenters, venues, services, and promotional efforts.
- Maintain risk services information and resources.
What We're Looking For
- Four-year degree or equivalent work-related experience and certifications.
- Minimum of three years of experience in risk management, safety management, or comparable risk mitigation services.
- Knowledge of loss control and risk management practices and the ability to apply that knowledge to risks faced by Alaska public entities.
- Familiarity with Alaska OSHA regulations, and standards of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations to diverse audiences, from leadership to front-line staff.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing member and organizational needs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Adobe, and related applications.
- Ability to learn and use virtual inspection tools, Zoom, learning management systems, and other service delivery platforms.
Location, Schedule, and Travel
This is a full-time, exempt position working 37.5 hours per week. The position may be located in Anchorage or Juneau and is expected to work during APRA’s normal business hours unless otherwise approved by the Executive Director.
Travel is an important part of this role. Significant travel within Alaska, including to remote communities and during all seasons, should be expected, with occasional travel outside the state.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting annual salary for the Risk Management Consultant is $98,547, DOE.
