POSITION: Kids’ Club Extended Care Counselor for the 2026-2027 School Year
LOCATION: The Children’s School, 2225 Torrey Pines Lane, La Jolla, CA 92037
HOURS: Monday - Friday; Morning hours 7:00am – 8:30am; Afternoon hours 3:00pm – 6:00pm.
SALARY: $22.00 an hour
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Programs
START DATE: August 31, 2026
GENERAL DUTIES:
Kids’ Club staff care for our students before and after school. The students are divided into two groups in grades preschool through kindergarten and first through eighth. Under general supervision, staff maintain the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert to the needs of the children as individuals and as a group.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Promote a positive environment for children at all times
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with parents and children
- Supervise the day-to-day activities of the program while maintaining ratios
- Provide homework assistance
- Initiate and implement daily activities (i.e. arts & crafts, snack, games)
- Redirect inappropriate child behavior and notify the Director when necessary
- Ensure that the Kids’ Club classrooms are kept in a clean and orderly manner
- Attend staff meetings as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- At least six months experience working in a daycare/recreation program or recent volunteer experience in a similar program.
- 12 ECE units required (one course in each of the following areas: Child/Human Growth & Development; Child/Family/Community or Child and Family Relations; and Programs/Curriculum)
- Screened for TB upon hire
- Pass Fingerprint Clearance and Background Check upon hire
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to relate well to children and adults
- Strong oral communication skills required
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Upbeat attitude, enthusiastic personality and a strong sense of professionalism
- Knowledge of learning styles and child development stages
