Position Summary
The On-the-Road Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, and facility upkeep at multiple company locations. This position requires a versatile individual with experience in general labor, plumbing, painting, basic electrical work, carpentry, and facility maintenance. The technician will travel to assigned store locations to complete maintenance tickets, perform emergency repairs, and help ensure all facilities remain safe, functional, and presentable.
This is an hourly, as-needed position. Work volume will vary based on maintenance requests, emergency situations, store needs, and company growth. Due to the number of store locations operated by the company, a consistent volume of maintenance work is expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities General Maintenance
- Complete maintenance tickets assigned by management in a timely manner.
- Perform general repairs and preventative maintenance at company locations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve facility-related issues.
- Maintain company standards for safety, cleanliness, and appearance.
Plumbing
- Repair and replace faucets, sinks, toilets, valves, and water lines.
- Diagnose and resolve minor plumbing issues and leaks.
- Clear clogged drains and perform routine plumbing maintenance.
Electrical
- Replace light fixtures, switches, outlets, and breakers as needed.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical issues.
- Coordinate with licensed electricians when repairs exceed certification or company requirements.
Painting and Facility Appearance
- Perform interior and exterior painting projects.
- Patch drywall, repair wall damage, and prepare surfaces for painting.
- Maintain store appearance through routine touch-ups and repairs.
Carpentry and General Repairs
- Repair shelving, doors, cabinets, counters, and fixtures.
- Assemble and install equipment, furniture, and displays.
- Perform minor construction and remodeling tasks as assigned.
Emergency Response
- Be available for emergency maintenance calls outside of normal business hours, including overnight, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Respond promptly to urgent issues that may impact store operations, safety, security, or customer service.
- Communicate repair status and estimated completion times to management.
Documentation and Reporting
- Update maintenance tickets with repair details and completion status.
- Take before-and-after photographs when requested.
- Maintain records of materials used and work performed.
- Report recurring maintenance issues and recommend corrective actions.
Travel
- Travel regularly between company locations.
- Operate company vehicles safely and professionally.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of maintenance, handyman, construction, or facility repair experience.
- Working knowledge of plumbing, painting, carpentry, and basic electrical systems.
- Ability to operate power tools and hand tools safely.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to travel frequently between store locations.
Preferred
- Experience maintaining grocery stores, retail locations, warehouses, or commercial facilities.
- HVAC troubleshooting experience.
- Forklift certification.
- Knowledge of refrigeration systems and commercial equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 75 pounds.
- Stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor for extended periods.
Work Schedule
- Hourly position.
- Schedule based on maintenance ticket volume and business needs.
- Regular daytime work with occasional evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday assignments.
- Must be available for emergency call-outs when necessary.
