Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Design Engineering Management

Develop and execute the strategic direction for the Design Engineering Organization.

Establish standards, processes, and tools to ensure consistent design delivery across all engineering disciplines.

Oversee design engineering performance, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and long-term growth strategies.

Lead the development of design engineering KPIs, dashboards, quality metrics, and performance tracking systems.

Foster collaboration between engineering, project management, field services, and business development teams.
Design Engineering & Technical Oversight

Provide executive oversight for all design engineering activities including electrical, substation, civil, transmission, and distribution design.

Ensure engineering scopes, schedules, deliverables, budgets, and quality standards are properly defined and executed.

Support engineering managers and discipline leads in resolving complex technical, contractual, or operational issues.
-
Ensure lessons-learned insights are institutionalized and drive continuous improvement across design delivery.
Financial, P&L & Contractual Governance
-
Own financial performance of the design engineering business unit, including revenue forecasting, labor utilization, backlog, margin optimization, and profitability.

Review and approve major engineering budgets, pricing strategies, contract negotiations, commercial assumptions, and change orders.

Establish financial controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, cost discipline, and project profitability across design engineering work.

Partner with finance and executive leadership to support forecasting, reporting, business planning, and assigned sales targets.
Client & Business Development Engagement

Serve as a senior point of escalation and executive sponsor for key clients, strategic partners, and design engineering opportunities.

Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, scope development, solution design, pricing strategies, pursuit planning, and client presentations.

Participate in executive-level client meetings, proposal interviews, job walks, technical reviews, and site assessments.

Promote a customer-centric culture focused on responsiveness, transparency, technical credibility, and quality delivery.
Leadership, Mentorship & Talent Development

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of engineering managers, discipline leads, senior engineers, designers, and technical specialists.
-
Partner with HR and executive leadership to forecast staffing needs, support recruitment, and strengthen succession planning.
-
Deliver ongoing training for design standards, engineering processes, financial literacy, client engagement, and technical excellence.
Create a culture of accountability, empowerment, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.

Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.

15+ years of engineering, design, project delivery, or utility infrastructure experience, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership or executive-level position.

Proven track record leading multi-discipline design engineering teams supporting substation, transmission, distribution, electrical, and civil infrastructure projects.
-
Strong financial, analytical, contract negotiation, and P&L management skills.
-
Experience developing engineering standards, quality processes, design governance, resource planning, and performance metrics.

Proficient with Microsoft Office, engineering/design platforms, and financial reporting tools.
-
Business development and proposal development experience strongly preferred.
-
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 50%.

Work Environment
Hybrid of office and field environments with routine travel to client offices, project sites, and company locations. Field visits may involve exposure to electrical equipment, substations, transmission and distribution facilities, outdoor conditions, and construction settings requiring proper PPE.
