We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and fluent American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter & Caregiver Assistant to support two elderly Deaf adults in their home. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with older adults and is passionate about improving quality of life through communication, engagement, and companionship.
The ideal candidate is patient, reliable, and understands that meaningful communication is essential to maintaining dignity, independence, and connection.
Responsibilities
- Provide ASL interpretation during medical appointments, home health visits, and interactions with healthcare providers.
- Assist with communication between our parents and family members, caregivers, visitors, and service providers.
- Support daily cognitive enrichment activities, including memory exercises, reading, writing, and conversation.
- Accompany our parents on community outings, appointments, grocery trips, and recreational activities.
- Encourage social engagement, routine, and independence while providing a calm and supportive presence.
- Assist with light daily tasks related to communication and organization as needed.
Qualifications
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
- Experience interpreting or working with Deaf individuals is required.
- Experience supporting older adults, individuals with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or cognitive decline is strongly preferred.
- Patient, compassionate, dependable, and professional.
- Comfortable working in a private home environment.
- Reliable transportation is preferred.
Schedule
Approximately 15–20 hours per week with a flexible schedule that may include weekday mornings, afternoons, and occasional appointments.
