Provides respiratory care services and equipment to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of the Physician and by prescription.
Reads prescriptions and reviews patient information.
Obtains and sets up equipment for use in the home or in out-patient setting, such as the following: PAP devices, apnea monitors, mechanical ventilators, O2 equipment, humidifiers and aerosols, suction devices, cough assist devices, nebulizers, oximeters and high flow therapy.
Educates and instructs patients and their caregivers on use and maintenance of the above equipment and supplies.
Provides patient assessments, equipment troubleshooting and patient’s equipment compliance monitoring.
When needed, will communicate with prescribing and non-prescribing health care providers to ensure optimal respiratory care for health care provider’s patients.
Maintains patients’ charts that contain pertinent identification and therapy information.
Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning at an optimal level.
Orders repairs when needed.
Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel.
