The Parking Enforcement Officer is an Essential Employee who performs a variety of duties to enforce various parking ordinances. This position has a responsibility to the community to treat everyone with respect and fairness with customer service being the number one priority. The Parking Enforcement Officer reports directly to the Manager/Supervisor of Enforcement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Community Engagement:
- Act as an ambassador for the Parking Authority by providing courteous and helpful interactions with residents, visitors, and business owners
- Educate the public on parking regulations, helping them to understand the reasons behind the rules and the benefits to the community
- Respond to public inquiries and concerns with professionalism and empathy, offering guidance and solutions where possible
Parking Enforcement:
- Monitor designated areas to enforce parking regulations, ensuring fair use of parking spaces and compliance with local laws
- Issue citations for parking violations when necessary, explaining the reasoning to drivers and offering information on how to resolve the citation
- Work closely with local businesses, schools, and other community organizations to address specific parking concerns and needs
- Must be able to work under limited supervision, be responsible, self-motivated, and self-disciplined
- Must be able to observe established rules and regulations
- Must be able to learn the geography of Allentown and be able to give accurate directions to citizens and visitors
Safety and Accessibility:
- Report any hazards or issues in parking areas, such as broken meters or obstructed spaces, to a supervisor for resolution
Data and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of citations, warnings, and interactions with the public.
Conflict Resolution:
- Handle disputes and challenging situations with tact and diplomacy, aiming to de-escalate tensions

QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and record in compliance with requirements established by the company’s auto insurance provider
- Must be able to ride a bicycle and pass a bicycle certification course
- Must be able to walk 4 to 8 miles a day, sometimes over uneven terrain, bend and stoop multiple times a day, and lift up to 35 pounds
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditions
- Prior experience in customer service, community relations, or law enforcement is preferred
- Employee is an Essential Employee and is required to report to work and work outside in all weather conditions
Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills

- Proficient in using technology, such as handheld devices for issuing citations

HOURS OF WORK – Saturday-Wednesday 3:00pm-11:30pm or Wednesday-Sunday 3:00pm-11:30pm
STARTING PAY RATE: $21.00 PER HOUR
SHIFT DIFFERENTIALS: $0.25 PER HOUR 1st shift, $0.50/PER HOUR 2nd shift, $0.75/PER HOUR 3rd shift in addition to weekend differentials
BILINGUAL: $0.25 PER HOUR differential after 2 weeks and fluency test
($0.50 increase available after introductory period)
