QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an approved college or university
. 2. Must have a valid Michigan teaching certificate.
3. Must meet state and federal highly qualified teacher requirements as set forth
by the State of Michigan for Special Education.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
5. Proficient in the use of technology to promote efficiency in the position.
6. Ability to run a categorical or resource room program.
7. Ability to prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional
program.
8. Ability to maintain discipline and to develop relationships with students with
disabilities.
9. Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to
the position.
10. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may
find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: Provide instruction to students with disabilities aimed at achieving
benchmarks determined by the State of Michigan
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers who have students with
disabilities in their general education classes, diagnosing and interpreting
student abilities and assisting with appropriate prescriptive objectives.
2. Confer frequently with parents and professionals regarding cognitive,
affective, and psychomotor challenges of students.
3. Facilitate all IEP meetings of assigned students.
4. Work cooperatively with support staff assigned to the department.
5. Provide appropriate materials to teachers, aides, and parents of students with
disabilities.
6. Assist counselors that work with students with disabilities in making realistic
assessments of their abilities in establishing educational and occupational
goals that meet their needs.
7. Regular and reliable attendance.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As Per Master Agreement
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with
provisions of the Board of Education policy on Evaluation of Professional
Personnel.
