CLINICAL AIDE
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision of the School Nurse, administers first aid and provides care for ill or injured students. With appropriate training, they perform delegable nursing services according to the Nevada School Nurse Regulation and Advisory Opinion, Nevada Revised Statutes, Chapter 632. This position also communicates changes in student health status to the School Nurse, school authorities, parents/guardian, maintains student health and immunization records and performs related work as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides First Aide
Renders first aide to injured or ill students following Student Health Services policies and American Heart Association/American Red Cross standards; administers CPR in life-threatening emergencies.
Care for Students
Assists students with physician-prescribed, parent-approved medications under School Nurse direction; performs delegable nursing procedures such as clean intermittent catheterization, tracheostomy care, diapering, and toileting.
Supports the School Nurse
Conducts basic vision and hearing screenings; monitors and audits immunization records for compliance; refers students to the School Nurse and follows all health-related policies and procedures.
Health Information Management
Updates and maintains student health records; documents accidents and illnesses; performs computer data entry and general clerical duties; inputs student health data into the designated database under School Nurse direction.
Supports Services
Performs periodic maintenance checks of the school's Automated External Defibrillator (AED); sanitizes health office cots; keeps the health office clean and organized: maintains adequate supplies.
Communications and Collaboration
Assists the School Nurse and principal with special assignments and daily routines; provides general information to students, families, and staff regarding Student Health Services policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that could provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:
Education and Experience: Any related experience that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the necessary duties would be qualifying.
Licenses/Certificates : Possession of or have the ability to obtain within 30 days a current Heartsaver + AED CPR card from the American Heart Association; possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days a Standard First Aid card from American Heart Association or Red Cross.
COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES
Knowledge of :
Behavior and characteristics of students from the ages of 3 to 22 years of age are desirable.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
Basic first aid and emergency procedures.
Current office procedures.
Basic computer software and data-entry skills
Files and records management; and
Telephone etiquette.
Skill in:
Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Rendering first aid to injured and ill students.
Preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records, files and reports.
Dealing tactfully with students, parents, and school personnel on health issues.
Applying specific laws, rules and office policies and procedures.
Reading, writing and speaking English at a level required for successful job performance.
Working quickly and effectively in stressful and emergency situations.
Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive benefits.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change. .
