The UC San Diego Department of Pediatrics is committed to academic excellence within its faculty, staff, and student body. Our Division of Neonatology is currently seeking candidates for the position of Medical Director, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), at Jacobs Medical Center.
The NICU at Jacobs Medical Center, part of UC San Diego Health, is a Level III regional center with 52 private rooms designed for high-acuity neonatal care. It serves premature and critically ill newborns within a system supporting 4,000–5,000 deliveries annually. Our Division of Neonatology at Rady Children's Health is consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally by U.S. News & World Report and is composed of a distinguished group of clinician educators, translational investigators, and physician-scientists.
The Medical Director will provide leadership and direction for NICU clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care and maintaining a strong focus on patient safety. This role includes leading quality improvement and performance initiatives, supervising and mentoring NICU physicians and advanced practice providers, and working closely with nursing leadership and hospital administration to achieve operational and strategic goals. The Medical Director will also support teaching, research, and academic development, as applicable, and participate in departmental and institutional leadership activities.
The appropriate series and appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s background and experience.
