Summary of the Role:
BEPC is seeking a highly motivated Sr Advanced Mechanical Engineer to join our client’s site in Phoenix, AZ. This role will support Production, Supplier Transition/Reposition, and Value Engineering initiatives.
The Sr Advanced Engineer will be responsible for conducting all evaluations performed on FanC components and systems for a team of engineers. These evaluations include Quality processes (FAIR, RMRAs, and QNs), drawing interpretation, supplier substantiation (ESA, STICS, STR, FTR, and SCS), and design change processes (ECN, EMA, and Deviation Waiver).
Supporting process transformation to reduce design and manufacturing costs and cycle time is an important aspect of the position.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform functional evaluations across multiple engine models and part families, including the identification of engine boundary conditions and design requirements.
- Conduct 3D finite element thermal, stress, and modal analyses.
- Conduct strength, vibration, stress rupture, deflection, and life evaluations.
- Provide problem-solving guidance to the team using Engines and APU design and manufacturing experience.
- Work successfully in an Agile environment with local and global analysis teams.
- Create statements of work and review analysis output.
- Communicate effectively with manufacturing personnel, suppliers, customers, and Chief Engineers.
- Support Production, Supplier Transition/Reposition, and Value Engineering initiatives.
- Support Quality processes, including FAIR, RMRAs, and QNs.
- Perform drawing interpretation.
- Support supplier substantiation processes, including ESA, STICS, STR, FTR, and SCS.
- Support design change processes, including ECN, EMA, and Deviation Waiver.
- Support process transformation to reduce design and manufacturing costs and cycle time.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in the field or a related area.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with engineering teams, other disciplines, and external supplier or customer parties
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to prioritize and adjust to constantly changing assignment requests.
- System-level understanding of a gas turbine engine.
- Understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes and requirements, including casting, machining, welding, and heat treatment.
- Strong drawing interpretation skills, including GD&T.
- Knowledge of the gas turbine engine industry, specifically regarding how design requirements are communicated and maintained in production through the following processes:
- Quality processes, including inspection methodologies and FAIR and RMRA reviews.
- Supplier substantiation processes, including ESA, STICS, STR, FTR, and SCS documentation.
- Design change processes, including ECNs and EMAs.
- Proven understanding and application of fatigue and finite element analysis.
- Capability to perform complex analyses and hand calculations of engine FanC components.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with engineering teams, other disciplines, and external supplier or customer parties.
- Experience with FEA using ANSYS or an equivalent tool.
- Experience with 3D modeling using CAD.
- Experience with GOM analysis using structured-light scanning of gas turbine engine FanC components.
