Position Summary
The Director of Programs position manages all educational programs to bring JA’s K-12 curricula to youth. This position assures program quality and growth by recruiting educational partners to implement JA programming and linking those opportunities to corporate and community volunteers. With potential for growth, this position will focus on deepening existing relationships by implementing JA programming school-wide and on-boarding a new middle and high school capstone program to impact additional students.
This position creates relationships within the business and educational communities for the purpose of generating greater school impact, larger volunteer pools, and increased school event opportunities. In alignment with the organization’s strategic direction, specific focus of the Director of Programs will be actively stewarding pre-existing partnerships and recruitment of new education partners to reach elementary, middle, and high school youth in under-resourced communities with a focus on a new middle and high school Financial Literacy Capstone program.

Roles & Responsibilities
School Partnerships
- Seek and develop new partnerships while managing existing partnerships with school administrators, teachers, district leaders, and corporate and community partners, to ensure effective implementation of JA programs throughout Rhode Island.
- Establish relationships and cultivate potential partnerships with community, government, and business organizations as well as local colleges and universities.
- Through targeted, strategic outreach, work to deepen relationships in schools and after school networks for greater program impact; position JA Rhode Island as a key service provider of financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workforce readiness curricula. In particular, expand JA’s reach to underserved and Title One schools in Rhode Island with a new middle and high school Financial Literacy Capstone program.
- Emphasis on increasing corporate and community volunteer pool, with focus on recruitment, training, and retention.
Program Implementation and Evaluation
- Achieve an expert understanding of JA’s curriculum, including alignment with RI standards and frameworks.
- Renew commitment of teachers, schools and volunteers, year over year, through appropriate, consistent, and detailed follow-up and servicing.
- Work with the program managers to ensure timely in-house printing of any materials for trainings or programs, including Volunteer Information Sheets and Spanish program materials.
- Create and deliver program presentations, in coordination with the education team, to new schools and prospective teachers and business volunteers.
- Recruit and coordinate, with the education team, the placement and scheduling of JA-trained volunteers in daily or weekly programs and Capstone programs.
- Utilize JA USA, or create and deliver local, volunteer training materials and presentations to effectively train new teachers and volunteers for maximum success.
- Collaborate with the Development team to create education goals for grant proposals and provide information for grant reports, ensuring we meet all goals and funding obligations.
- Attend and participate in JA’s special events, board meetings, and other meetings or events.
- Develop and implement plans for teacher/volunteer communications and support, and ongoing contact via phone, e-mail, school visits, and periodic in-person observation and support of JA programs.
- Responsible for regularly gathering, analyzing, and communicating both quantitative and qualitative data to provide evaluation and outcome information to key stakeholders and funders in partnership with the JA development team.
- Supervise data collection processes to ensure accurate reporting and reflection on overall progress, performance and trends in programming.
- Responsible for being familiar and keeping up-to-date with all JA USA existing and new curriculum, including blended learning and capstone programs, as well as JA USA Data and Program Access Systems.
General and Administrative Duties
- Frequent oral and written communications are a key component to this position – attention paid to response to constituents within 24-hours to ensure teachers and volunteers are served in a quality manner.
- Handle general records and correspondence with volunteers, teachers, board members, and prospects.
- Communicate with Development and Marketing teams on volunteer needs.
- Responsible for the class registration process and other relevant reports for JA USA.
- Produce quality reports to senior leadership in a timely manner, including reports for Board of Directors meetings.
- Schedule and co-lead Board of Directors Education Committee meetings.
- Supervise program managers and divide responsibilities of program management between team members.
- Assist in other areas of JA’s operations as necessary. This includes programs and events, other than within your own department, throughout the year, as needed. Occasional weekends and evenings will apply.
Required Qualifications
This position is a mix between the need to remain in a stationary position while conducting in-office work, and the need to move around while conducting business outside of the office. Candidate must be fully comfortable traveling to partners throughout the State of Rhode Island. Candidate Requirements:
- BA or BS degree in education, youth development, communications, business, or related field required.
- Minimum 3-years work experience within the education space strongly. Training and/or teaching experience preferred.
- Proven ability to think strategically and execute multiple priorities simultaneously; comfortable with a high-paced environment to meet the needs of constituents.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, and keep up with a fast-paced work environment
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and experience with volunteer management and/or fundraising databases (i.e. D365, Raiser’s Edge, BCRM, QGiv, etc.)
- High cultural/DEI literacy with experience serving diverse populations and youth from under-served communities.
- Track record of effectively recruiting, training and managing a culturally diverse volunteer pool to achieve programmatic excellence.
- Strong critical thinking skills with clear understanding of and comfort with data and how it informs programming and student performance.
- Polished presentation style and a keen eye for detail.
- Strong interpersonal and excellent oral/written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Classification/Expected Hours of Work/Compensation:
- Exempt
- Full-time/Year-round
- $60,000 - $65,000
- The salary range provided is firm. If you require a salary greater than the maximum of the range provided, we will not be able to accommodate.
