Position Summary:
The Marketing Coordinator for the Bemidji State University Alumni & Foundation is responsible for leading the execution of marketing efforts and stewardship communications that drive awareness, engagement, and gratitude among alumni, donors, and friends of the university.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Marketing and Promotion
- Develop and execute marketing plans that promote the projects, initiatives, and priorities of the Alumni & Foundation and Bemidji State University through email outreach, social media, printed materials, articles and videos, and similar efforts.
- Manage the Alumni & Foundation social media accounts by developing timely, platform-specific content that increases visibility, engagement, and affinity through paid and organic promotions.
- Lead email marketing efforts, including schedule management, list segmentation, copy development, testing, and deployment.
- Support the creation of visual content including photography, videography, and basic graphic design.
Stewardship Development and Coordination
- Track stewardship timelines and ensure timely delivery of donor acknowledgments, impact reports, and other materials to keep donors informed of the health and impact of their funds.
- Produce donor impact articles and videos, highlighting donors and student scholarship recipients through interviews, photography, and videography to capture the human story behind every gift.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive stewardship matrix outlining touchpoints for every donor level.
- Launch a training program for student stewardship ambassadors, and establish the compensation structure for student-led stewardship tasks (e.g., video thank-yous, tours).
Event Promotion and Support
- Partner with leads for alumni and donor events to develop promotional plans and supporting materials, such as social media posts, webpages, physical and digital invites, scripts, and PowerPoints.
- Lead pre- and post-event marketing efforts, including email follow-ups, digital promotion, and event recaps in coordination with the Communications Manager.
- Attend events as needed to assist with content gathering, such as photography and videography.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, advertising, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of professional experience in marketing, communications, stewardship, or a related field.
- Strong copywriting skills, including attention to detail and grammar.
- Experience with social media management and email marketing tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and passion for the mission of Bemidji State University.
- Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or alumni/donor communications, marketing, and stewardship.
- Photography and video editing skills.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro).
- Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge or similar platforms).
Work Environment and Expectations:
- Full-time (40 hours/week), exempt position with some evening and weekend work required for events and deadlines.
- Hybrid work flexibility may be considered, with regular on-campus presence required.
- Occasional travel may be required for alumni/donor engagement or event coverage.
