Montessori Elementary Assistant
We are looking for a warm, organized, and curious assistant for our Montessori Elementary classroom (ages 6 to 12), supporting an experienced AMI-trained Lead Guide.
Elementary children are capable, imaginative, and drawn to real work, and this role is genuinely interesting: you help maintain a beautiful, prepared environment, support children during their work time, and protect the calm, focused culture that lets deep learning happen. The best part of this position: we want you to bring something of your own. Gardening, cooking, woodworking, music, art, fiber arts, sports, or another craft you genuinely love. Our children learn from adults who pursue meaningful work, and our campus includes a farm and garden program and a woodshop where those passions have room to live.
This position is perfect for someone interested in Montessori, education, or child development. Professional growth is actively supported. Montessori experience preferred, not required. Experience with children (ideally ages 6 to 12), CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain, and the ability to meet California requirements (fingerprinting, TB test, health clearance) are required.
Hours: Permanent full-time, Monday to Friday 7:30/7:45 to 3:30/3:45, 10-month school-year contract, starting August 24, 2026.
Pay: $28.00 to $37.00 per hour on our unified assistant scale, with placement based on experience and credentials. Steps advance annually.
About our school: Centennial Montessori is a small, close-knit community of children, staff, and parents, celebrating our 20th year. We are an AMI-recognized Montessori school serving children from toddlers through age 12, located 20 miles south of San Francisco in San Mateo.
Benefits: Health, vision, and dental insurance, life insurance, 401(k) with matching, paid time off, and real support for professional and personal development, including Montessori training.
How to apply: Send a resume and a short cover letter telling us about yourself, your interest in the position, and the personal interest or craft you would bring to the classroom. English is required for communication with staff; we would be delighted for a native Spanish or Mandarin speaker to use their language with the children.
