PROGRAM BACKGROUND
The growing demand for welders with UA weld certifications is creating exciting career opportunities through Steamfitters Local 601. The United Association, in partnership with the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau, is nationally recognized by the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA)—a mark of excellence in the piping and welding industry. UA weld certifications are respected across the United States and Canada, opening doors to high-paying, stable careers.
To meet this demand, Steamfitters Local 601 offers an Accelerated Welding Program at its Milwaukee flagship training center. This intensive full-time, unpaid 18-week program accepts only six highly motivated candidates per session, selected through hands-on weld assessments and personal interviews. Graduates leave with the skills and credentials to succeed in a dynamic, rewarding industry.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be empowered to embark on their careers with one of over 40 union-signatory contractors, including esteemed employers such as J.M. Brennan, Johnson Controls, Boldt Construction and JF Ahern. Graduates can expect to begin earning $41 per hour, with the potential to elevate their income to $58 per hour through additional training. TRAINING DESCRIPTION
This program offers FREE accelerated pipe welding and specialty pipe welding certification courses, empowering participants to achieve the highest level of certifications available in the piping industry. Participants will collaborate with skilled instructors to learn and hone their pipe welding skills in both the workshop and in simulated field scenarios.
The full-time program is structured to last 18 weeks, operating Monday through Friday; however, individual circumstances will be taken into account, and modified program schedules can be discussed with qualified applicants, ensuring that every candidate has the opportunity to succeed.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES
Specific learning objectives include:
· Demonstrate industry-recognized safety practices
· Interpret welding drawings
· Perform cutting operations
· Perform mathematics used in industry
· Produce shielded metal arc welds (SMAW)
· Produce gas tungsten arc welds (GTAW)
· Produce gas metal arc welds (GMAW)
· Produce flux cored arc welds (FCAW)
· Produce regulated metal deposit (RMD)
· Produce modified wave (Pulse)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Prior welding experience for employment within the last three years
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong basic math skills
- Valid Driver’s License
