What You’ll Do
- Craft espresso-based drinks and specialty coffee and tea with consistency and care
- Serve beer and wine responsibly
- Create genuine connections with guests—remembering names, orders, and stories
- Work efficiently and gracefully during rushes
- Help train and mentor junior barista and floor associate staff
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar
Supervisory Responsibilities
As Lead Barista, you play a key role in keeping our front-of-house running smoothly:
- Provide day-to-day direction and training to junior barista and floor associate staff
- Serve as manager on duty in the owner’s absence
- Handle escalated guest issues with patience and professionalism
- Ensure operational standards are met during your shift
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years barista experience (specialty coffee preferred)
- A natural hospitality instinct—you genuinely enjoy making people feel welcome
- Ability to move quickly and stay composed during a rush
- Team player who is excited to help build and train a team from the ground up
- NYC Food Handler Certificate (required)
- Beer and wine service experience (a plus)
Physical Requirements
This role involves the physical demands typical of a cafe environment:
- Prolonged standing (8+ hours per shift)
- Repetitive hand and arm movements (tamping, pouring, steaming)
- Lifting up to 30 lbs (milk crates, supply boxes, kegs)
- Working in a fast-paced environment with heat and noise
- Ability to reach overhead and bend repeatedly throughout a shift
Compensation & Benefits

Compensation Note: Pay is listed as a range per New York Labor Law § 194-b. Final pay within the stated range will be based on experience and qualifications.
Tip Notice: Tips are received in addition to base hourly compensation. Tip handling is governed by New York Labor Law § 196-d.
Overtime Eligibility
This position is classified as non-exempt. You are eligible for overtime pay at 1.5x your regular rate for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek, in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and New York Labor Law.
