Job Description: Kennel Tech & Housekeeper
PREFERRED to be over 21 and minimum 2 years dog kennel tech experience in the past 4 years. We are seeking a dedicated Kennel Tech & Housekeeper in our Houston foster home near Westheimer and Fondren to join our team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You would assist w/another employee, in care of approximately 30-50 mostly small dogs. If you have suggestions for any changes, please advise first before making changes. If you are good at organizing, that is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dog Care: Feed and care for around 30-50 dogs, some with unique needs, including occasionally administering medication as required/shown to you. It absolutely a must to help monitor & give immediate feedback on any concerning dogs' medical or behaviorial changes or concerns. Provide comfort, attention and support to ensure their well-being and occasionally bathe dogs when asked.
- Cleaning & Maintenance: Perform daily cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting, wiping doors and light switches, baseboards, cleaning a few windows w/pawprints and making sure all areas of the home and kennel room are clean and restocked. Spot cleaning urine & fecal on floors or bedding. Soak and wash soiled bedding and rags, fold laundry, wash dog bowls, prepare their meals, and scoop poop outside & monitor dogs to maintain a safe, clean & sanitary environment.
- Consistency & Adaptability: Must perform duties with an eye for paying attention and "keep head on a swivel." Always be respectful to other employees & the foster home's humans as well as their property.
- Shift Availability: Morning 8-2 and evening shifts 6-10 are available, selecting some of the 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The dogs need proper daily care regardless of holidays and weekends.
- Qualifications:
- MUST be high energy. No "chill, I'll get it done, don't worry" attitude.
- MUST have Strong passion for dogs and their PROPER care.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively and have good skills.
- Experience in a similar role is a must and is required.
- Must be able to handle physical tasks and maintain a high level of cleanliness.
- NO CRIMINAL background & no fake ID is accepted. Trustworthiness in terms of not damaging or taking things from the home, must show up on time & if late more than 15 minutes, to give immediate notice by text.
- High School diploma is preferred over a GED.
- References given must not be verified past or present employers, not friends.
- Ability to take commands and be responsive to questions in person, phone calls or texts even when you are at home as questions may need to be asked & respectful at all times. Being a "no show" at the job without sufficient notice and reasonable, verified explanation, is grounds for immediate termination as would be anywhere.
- Missing work frequently, more than once every 3 weeks, or being more than 15 minutes late more than twice a week is grounds for termination.
- PLEASE have your own or access to a vehicle or have someone driving you as bus service can be slow & will drop off at top of road so that's not ideal.
