Commercial Marine Construction Company hiring a Lead Estimator to analyze plans, specification, and geotechnical data; perform detailed quantity takeoffs; solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing; and develop complete cost proposals that align with project scope, schedule, and company standards. Must have experience in estimating marine and heavy civil construction projects, including mechanical dredging, water control structures, bulkheads, seawalls, fixed, and floating docks, piers, and marina projects ranging from $500,000 to $30,000,000.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Review of proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
- Prepare detailed estimate by calculating complete take-off of project.
- Estimate equipment, labor and materials required to accomplish each project.
- Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by accurately identifying and specifying materials.
- Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality or availability of materials.
- Prepare final estimate summaries, analyzing each section for scope, pricing and completeness.
- Attend Pre-bid meetings as needed.
- Assist with work plans, etc.
- Ensure each proposal includes the full scope of work and is apples to apples with materials, etc.
- Assist with project start up; finalize takeoffs; selecting subcontractors, compare pricing and scope.
- Any other duties as requested by their supervisor.
Candidate needs to possess the ability to exercise significant independent judgment to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives, have excellent organizational and time management skills, and able to maintain a respectful demeanor in the midst of handling time-critical deadlines. Able to effectively communicate and work with clients, employees, subcontractors, and material suppliers in a professional manner. Proficient in Excel and Office products.
