Tutors within the Abington Public Schools work closely with general education and special education teachers in order to meet the needs of all students in a grade or classroom. This tutoring role supports students and staff with technology and other needs related to the library. Library responsibilities include technology troubleshooting, processing new materials, checking books in and out, maintaining library records, and assisting students and staff in research, reference, and assignments.Library-specific Tutor duties include: Serve as the primary student support contact in a 1:1 laptop environment, troubleshooting hardware, software, and other instructional technology issues.Foster a welcoming and well-managed library environment by supervising students, supporting mentor/study hall responsibilities, and promoting positive behavior.Assist students with research, digital resources, library systems (Follett Destiny), and responsible digital citizenship practices.Support daily library operations, including circulation, shelving, inventory management, book processing/repair, displays, and maintaining an organized learning space.Collaborate with library staff to train student assistants, maintain a relevant and diverse collection, and balance multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.The responsibilities of a Tutor generally consist of the responsibilities of our Paraprofessionals, which include: Supporting a teachers daily instructional plan and implementing differentiated instruction, clarification, and assessment, as needed.Supporting the classroom teacher in responding to students behavioral, physical, and academic needs.Maintaining active awareness of students IEPs, 504 accommodations, and English Learner support arrangements.Implementing accommodations and modifications to Special Education students on an as needed basis.Communicating and gathering information about student progress to general and special education staff, so that teachers may use this information to guide instruction and liaisons may use this information to track progress and adjust service arrangements.Supporting daily, building-based operations as assigned by building administration. Additionally, Tutors are often tasked with the following: Tutors may be requested to implement short-term academic lessons in consultation with teaching staff.
Independently provide educational activities and assessments on behalf of the classroom teacher. Maintain familiarity with the general education content in order to provide supplemental instruction to students. Support students who have missed substantial instruction.
